UV Cancer Awareness

With the long days of summer quickly approaching, our sun exposure is likely to increase. While we indulge in outside activities, it is important to remember to protect our skin from the sun’s potentially damaging ultraviolet (UV) radiation. UV exposure can cause more than just sunburn. Skin cancer, premature aging, and ocular damage all have been attributed to excessive time in the sun.

Three common types of skin cancer exist, each named after the type of cell from which it arises; basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma. More than 1 million cases of skin cancer are diagnosed annually. (1)
According to the American Cancer Society, skin cancer is the most common of all cancers and accounts for nearly half of all cancers in the United States. One in five Americans will develop skin cancer in the course of a lifetime. (2)
Extended sun exposure is the leading cause of skin cancer. The effects of sun exposure are cumulative, and contrary to popular belief 80 percent of a person's lifetime sun exposure is not acquired before age 18; only about 23 percent of lifetime exposure occurs by age 18. (3)
In 2004, approximately 34 percent of adults reported experiencing at least one sunburn in the previous year. (4)
Even though sun exposure may be unavoidable, sunburns are preventable. The American
Academy of Dermatology recommends following the “ABCs” to prevent a sunburn. “A” stands for stay away from the sun in the middle of the day, “B” stands for block the sun’s rays by using an SPF 15 or higher sunscreen, and “C” stands for cover up using protective clothing such as long sleeves and a hat. (5)

Another example would be when you go to the salon to get your hair styled, the shampoo the stylist uses, comes from a business that sells the product to the stylist to use on your hair. The stylist doesn’t make the shampoo herself. That other business sells the shampoo, providing a service, to the stylist.

This is the basic business concept behind A Natural Fit, but it’s even easier.

All of us know healthcare providers and personal care providers. We’ve used them throughout our lives or perhaps they’re friends, family or neighbors. Mangosteen Miracle

What is that?

Warning About Swine Flu

The Center For Disease Control is posting daily updates on the spread of Swine Flu in the United States. The symptoms appear to be the same as regualr influenza. Here's the link to read up on it. http://www.cdc.gov/swineflu/index.htm

There are everyday actions people can take to stay healthy.

Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hands cleaners are also effective.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
Influenza is thought to spread mainly person-to-person through coughing or sneezing of infected people.
If you get sick, CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.

Although it has only appeared in a few states so far, we all know how fast regular influenza spreads. Stock up on your Silver Shield now before it comes to your area. Make a Green Change

-Tame the refrigerator monster. It's the biggest consumer of electricity among household appliances. Changing the adjustments just a little will save energy. And if that second frig has only a few items in it, unplug it.
-Turn the knobs down on your other household appliances. The hot water heater only needs to be set at 110-120 degrees.
-When possible, wash a few dishes by hand. Over time, that will save a few loads in the dishwasher, conserving energy.
-Go organic, eat locally grown food. If the food doesn't have to travel far, there's less CO2 from the trucks that ship it.
-Buy recycled.
-Be a minimalist, every time you buy something, energy has gone into getting that product to you. So the less you buy, the more you save energy-wise.

Spring Cleaning

Spring is a wonderful time for new beginnings. After a period of slower activity in the winter, the whole world seems to speed up in springtime, almost as if we, along with the plants and animals, are trying to make up for lost time.
We often need or feel like we want to "rev our engines" a little bit in order to clear out the gunk in our systems.
